Recall Efforts Temporarily Paused Pending Court Rulings

Oregon for the People’s statewide recall effort is currently on hold as we await rulings from higher courts regarding the erroneous cover sheet issued by the Oregon Secretary of State. That cover sheet contained confusing and false instructions which discouraged many Oregonians from signing the petition.

Because the Secretary of State does not accept partial submissions below the required signature threshold, the signed petitions were not turned in by the deadline. Our legal filings assert that the faulty instructions materially hindered participation across the state, leading to fewer signatures.

However, we remain optimistic. Court motions were filed by Chief Petitioner Bill Minnix before the statutory deadline, ensuring the recall remains legally active and under judicial review. The Secretary of State’s claim that the recall is “closed” is misleading — it is merely paused pending a judicial ruling.

We ask all supporters and volunteers to remain patient and steadfast. If the courts rule favorably, we expect to resume the recall with an extended timeframe to continue gathering signatures statewide.

Our Story

Bill Minnix, founder of Oregon for the People, has been a driving force for positive governmental change both nationally and locally. He played a key role in reforming how the U.S. military and the Department of Veterans Affairs address Military Sexual Trauma (MST), helping to bring dignity and justice to countless survivors. Bill also championed the Veteran’s Treatment Court Coordination Act, which was signed into law by the President in 2019, expanding critical support for justice-involved veterans.

Most recently, he partnered with Oregonians, State Senators, and Representatives to successfully repeal the highly contested wildfire hazard map, standing up for landowners and rural communities across the state.

We must unite our efforts and meet everyday, hardworking, middle class Oregonians across every county, in every community. They are ready, they are eager, and they are asking us to deliver the Recall Petition.

This is no time for hesitation. Take time off work if you can. Set aside distractions. Sacrifice your evenings and weekends. Engage your friends, coworkers, neighbors and families. Starting now and until Oct 27th, Oregon needs every ounce of your commitment.

Social events can wait unless you are gathering lots of signatures. Hours of online surfing must wait. Use that time to reach the people needing to sign.
